Biography  | Alexander Gorodnitsky. Professor Alexander Gorodnitsky has recently celebrated his 76th birthday. Born in Leningrad (today’s St. Petersburg) in 1933, he survived the 1941-42 blockade and eventually became a world-renowned scientist at the Russian Institute of Oceanology. He has also directed the laboratory of marine geophysics at the Arctic Geology Research Institute in Leningrad. Gorodnitsky has taken part in a lot of exploratory expeditions in various areas of the Ocean; he must be the only Jew to have explored the depths of the seas to such an extent. From 1962 on, he has taken part in more than twenty underwater research voyages. He was the first scientist in the world to calculate the lithosphere power. As a member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, the professor has published more than 260 scientific works, including eight studies about the geology and geophysics of the ocean floor. Mr. Gorodnitsky has also been composing songs to his own lyrics since 1953. A member of the Russian Writers’ Union and the International PEN Club, he is involved with radio, television, cinema and the theatre. He has toured the USA, Germany, Israel, Sweden, France, Denmark, Holland and other countries with his concert programs. 22 books of his poems, songs, and memoirs, as well as dozens of compact discs, have been published since the mid-1980s. |  | Natalia Ksperovich. Television journalist and producer Natalia Kasperovich was born in Baku (capital of Azerbaijan) in 1965 and has graduated with high distinction from the Moscow State University’s Department of TV journalism where she was taught by some of the brightest stars of Russian media. She worked as a freelance correspondent for the widely read Izvestiya (News) daily from 1988 to 1992 and a writer/director for a children’s theater from 1992 to 1995. Since 1995, she has been employed as a journalist by ARD/NDR TV in Hamburg, Germany. Her work has been recognized with awards from the Italian Prix Leonardo Festival (2000) and the New York Film Festival (2007). Natalia Kasperovich currently lives in Europe with her family.
